Sunnyside was a settlement located at
Sunnyside Canyon in the Huachuca Mountains. It was established as
religious community in the early 1900's. Samuel Donnelly established the
community and the town was composed of hard working miners and their families.
These miners and their families were known as "Donnellites". Unlike other
mining towns of the era this town was based on the work ethic, religion and
bible reading. Anyone was welcome but they had to be willing to follow the
rules and all monies made by anyone was put into the community, the residents
were living as socialists. Everyone contributed to the community by doing
whatever they were good at. The community was said to be generous in
helping those less fortunate. When the mine ceased producing enough ore
in the mid to late 1930's the residents all moved elsewhere to find work. Post office established July 16, 1914.
This town is still pretty much intact as it
is located on private property. Access is limited and it's hard to get to.
